Last week, I had the opportunity to attend a lecture by Dave Evans. He’s a professor at Standford University that worked for Apple for many years. He teaches a brand new course called Life Design which he created after publishing his book, Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life.
During the lecture he talked about a common question many people have heard. That is, what now? Being a college student, I get asked what my plans are after graduation or what I want to do with my bachelor’s degree. Growing up, I am sure you were asked what you wanted to be when you grew up, as in there is only ONE thing you should be. Of course, no one really means this with a bad intention just ask out of curiosity.
Furthermore, who hasn’t heard to be the best version of you and follow whatever that passion is.
Here is the reality…THERE IS NO ONE BEST YOU.
If you think about it, we all have multiple versions of ourselves. Some of my versions include myself as a student, marketer, sister, daughter, girlfriend. So, how many lives are you? Not one version should be consider better than the other because we are constantly evolving and working on who we are.
It is important to know that the career you may have thought you wanted years ago that sounded like the perfect choice may not be the same one today. This is completely okay. You need to focus on the know and find out what triggers your curiosity.
Dave Evan’s lecture was eye opening and I am so excited to buy the book soon because the reviews are amazing and the material he brought to the event in just one hour was fantastic in itself.
